We started July off with a bus, train, cab, and boat! On July 1, we left London to get on a cruise through the Norwegian Fjords on the Carnival Pride in Dover, England. We left our hotel in London and boarded a double decker red bus to travel to the London Bridge train station. If you would have told 10 year old Megan that I would be riding one of these iconic busses, I would have been amazed. It's not lost on me how special all these experiences are and I hope we are able to continue to appreciate them. From the London Bridge station, we boarded a train to Dover, England. This was about a 1.5 hour trip and I spent the time reading while Brennan worked on his laptop. We pulled into Dover, took a taxi to the cruise terminal and boarded the ship! This process was much simpler than either of us anticipated and everyone was very helpful to us. Once on board, we walked around to explore. Brennan has never been on a cruise and my only experience is when I was a kid and went on a cruise with my grandparents. Seeing the white cliffs of Dover from the boat was amazing, but so cold!! It was really windy, as you can see from the waves, so we were a little chilly walking around. We pulled out of port around 4pm and began making our way toward Norway. The rest of this day was spent finding our way around the ship, listening to live music, and getting used to the rocking of the boat. When I went on the cruise with my grandparents as a kid, I remember eating so much ice cream! I had to sample the ice cream on this ship as soon as I found it and it was just as good as I hoped it would be. Because we were up late the first night, we had to try the late night pizza! Eating pizza in bed is one of those things that makes me ask "Am I really the adult in this situation?" every time I do it. While the pizza wasn't my favorite, it's still a fun memory. Saturday, July 2 was our first day at sea. I don't remember much of what we did, other than I spent time looking at the water, sitting on the deck enjoying the sunshine and reading, and we explored more areas of the ship. As you can see from the pictures, this is not the most updated ship in the Carnival fleet, but it is incredibly clean and well maintained. The crew is always wiping things down, vacuuming, and going out of their way to make sure the guests are having a great experience. I've been highly impressed by everyone who has helped us. Saturday evening was the first formal night on the ship. We were sitting in one of the lounges and I was working on creating this website, as people started to walk past to go to dinner. They were wearing tuxedos and long, formal, sparkly dresses. Brennan and I looked at each other and asked "Do we have even have clothes we can wear tonight?!" Thankfully, I had a black sundress and Brennan had a button down shirt and khaki pants to wear to dinner. We may not have been as dressed up as some guests, but we figured it out. Dessert that night was creme brûlée for me, which is always one of my favorites. We went to the piano bar and listened to music while playing Phase 10 for the rest of the evening. In the morning, we would arrive in our first port, Bergen, Norway!
