We flew from Toronto to Nashville to get our car from Bradley and Brett and see them for a few days before heading on a road trip around the southeast. We were able to go to dinner with Brett & Gabriel, then hang out with them the evening we got back. It felt strange how quickly we adjusted back to having our car and driving around Nashville. On Monday, we went to The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson’s house. It used to be a large plantation and now has manicured grounds and the historic house you can walk through. I didn’t know a lot about Jackson’s background, but left feeling like we learned a lot. It was very interesting to walk through the house that has been preserved to the time the Jacksons lived there. On the way back into town, we stopped at Dutch Bros coffee. This was the first time Brennan or I had tried it, but I had heard our friends Greg and Rachel talk about it for years. It was really good, but very sweet! As Greg said, it’s definitely dessert coffee. I’m glad we were able to try it! We spent the next couple days in Nashville doing some errands, hanging out with Bradley and Kennedy, and enjoying our hotel (Grand Hyatt Nashville-right downtown on Broadway; we highly recommend it!) before heading to Birmingham. We hoped to see the Civil Rights sites in Birmingham, but ran out of good weather to walk around when we were downtown. We were able to visit a cool brewery for dinner one night and see a movie the next evening. We left Birmingham and headed to Thomasville to see Dwayne, Jackie, Bayleigh, Andrew and Zekie. We went to the opening high school football game, ate breakfast in downtown Thomasville and spent time at their new house. It was so good to see everyone for a few days before we continued on to Florida. We spent 2 nights in Alachua so that we could see Ginnie Springs and float down the river in tubes. Neither of us had ever been to see the natural springs that Florida is famous for and we have wanted to go tubing for awhile. The springs were so cold, but the water was very clear. We even saw people scuba diving! After the springs, we went to visit Brennan’s grandma, Gammie, in Arcadia. It was so good to see her and show her pictures from the first part of our trip. We spent two nights in Sarasota and I was able to visit the school I have taught at for the last 5 years. None of the kids knew I was coming and they all ran up to me in the cafeteria and gave me hugs. I missed them, and all my teacher friends, so much! I was able to help in a few classrooms for a little while before heading out again. It made me miss the routine of school and seeing all the people every day, but I definitely do not miss the stress of the school year. We left Sarasota and headed to Atlanta. We had a night there, but ended up stuck in traffic for awhile and didn’t get to do much exploring before we left the next morning to head back to Nashville.
We spent one night in Nashville before flying to Ohio. I got my ears double pierced on Saturday morning, which I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We dropped off our car at Bradley & Brett’s house, went to see where Bradley worked, and Kennedy drove us to the airport. We fit a lot into two weeks in the Southeast!
